The World Before the Flood is perhaps the most original of his longer works.

A Wesleyan chapel and a public hall are also named in his honour. Thompson notes the strong communitarian tradition in the Moravian Brotherhood. A very handsome volume. Language: English.

It is a feeble performance, and doubtless owed its popularity to the strong feeling of public sympathy felt for the Swiss patriots then suffering under French conquest.

For some time the Iris was the only newspaper in Sheffield, but beyond the ability to produce fairly creditable articles from week to week, Montgomery was devoid of the journalistic skills that would have allowed him to take full advantage of his position. The process allowed illustrations to more closely resemble the original drawings, paintings or sketches, as it gave the lithographer a freedom of line impossible to achieve in earlier intaglio and relief processes.

Not uncommon in older, larger books, it is not considered a defect, so long as all integral leaves are present. After abandoning the Moravian religion of his youth, he lost direct contact with church members, and, while he always considered himself a Christian, he was troubled by restlessness and doubt.
